It all started in the '70's with some KISS records, a Fisher-Price record player, and a wooden, Flying-V guitar one of my brothers made in his shop class so I could mimic Ace Frehley. I discovered the drums at the age of 11 and was exposed to all different kinds of music from my 8 older brothers and sisters. Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, RUSH, The Police, AC/DC, Pat Benatar, Journey, Kansas, Lynyrd Skynyrd and countless others were on my headphones with me playing along on the skins.
I graduated to mini jam groups, such as "Laundromat", "The D-Town Dregs", and "The Advisors" where we played a combination of originals and covers. Our motto was, "you request it, you sing it". Although a drummer by heart, I gained a new appreciation for the guitar and as I got into my later 20's, really gained an appreciation for rock and metal guitarists and learned how to play. We would get studio time and record rough demos and be weekend warriors.
I think Gene Simmons had been subconsciously in my brain forever, and I graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in Marketing. Fast forward years later and a bazillion concerts attended, and the time was right to explore the perfect meld of my personal and professional interests: Keeley Research & Analytics (KRA).
Keeley Beats (a division of KRA) was born on the premise of helping people enjoy music as much as I have over the past 30 years. I want to help individuals explore the drums at a beginner's level and do it from a hands on (or sticks on) approach. Let's explore how fun the drums can really be!
